When you hear the word “manifestation”, what comes to mind?

Such a word became popular because of the hit documentary, “The Secret” which focuses heavily on the Law of Attraction. This is based on a philosophy which claims that your thoughts determine your reality. But if life is as simple as thinking your way through your desired life, why are most of us merely getting by?

This is what I love about Dr. John Demartini’s episode on the truth behind The Secret (listen to the complete episode here: https://kite.link/truth-behind-secret) John debunks the common misconceptions of manifestation which I will summarize into 3 main points:

Misconception # 1: Manifestation creates instant results.

There is no such thing as overnight success; you are bound to spend 10,000 hours mastering a skill that is congruent to what you deeply value. John shares how every human being lives by a hierarchy of values that are unique to them. This is one of the most crucial points in living an extraordinary life of inspired mission. We tend to spontaneously engage in things we value the most, hence, we unknowingly spend more hours honing a certain craft.

Misconception #2: Manifestation does not require effort.

It is where you put your time, energy, and space that contributes to how your future will look like. Manifestation should not breed complacency; instead, clarity of vision should also identify which ones are priorities and which ones are distractions. Focus on what intrinsically motivates you and you wouldn't see your efforts as time wasted but rather as time well spent.

Misconception #3: Manifestation guarantees success.

You don't expect to attract a million-dollar check to magically appear in your mailbox unless you provide immense value for someone to compensate you. At the end of the day, life is about living your inspired mission. And because it is something intrinsically valuable to you, no one has to force you to do it.

Unless you identify what you truly value, not what society values, or what our family and friends value, you can't manifest your desires into reality. May this inspire you to reflect on what spontaneously gets you out of bed in the morning, so you can live a life of inspired mission.
